Extended Health and Dental Care
Red Deer Polytechnic offers a competitive extended health and dental package with no waiting period for eligible employees. This package includes: vision, prescription, paramedical and emergency medical travel insurance.
Health Spending Account
This account complements your extended health and dental plan by assisting to meet your unique health care needs with greater choice and flexibility, and by helping you pay for a wide range of health-related costs not covered by your plan.
Eligible employees participate in the Local Authorities Pension Plan, which includes both employee and employer contributions. The good news is, if you’ve already participated in other public pension plans, transferability agreements may exist.
Employee and Family Assistance Plan
LifeWorks Employee and Family Assistance Plan (EFAP) is a confidential service available to employees and their dependents, at no cost, to help support wellbeing. LifeWorks has a variety of service, including counselling, financial and legal consultation, childcare and eldercare locator tools, and much more. The EFAP is designed to help individuals tackle wellbeing challenges, achieve better balance and prevent problems from becoming overwhelming. Services provided can support you through life stages and transitions including family challenges, career changes, grief or planning retirement. LifeWorks counsellors can also help you deal with depression, anxiety, fear, substance use issues, and provide immediate assistance in times of crisis 24 hours a day confidentially.
Funding is available for eligible employees to engage in professional development opportunities that encourage lifelong learning and allow them to grow professionally and personally. Opportunities include participating in webinars and seminars, as well as pursuing advanced education and attending conferences. Red Deer Polytechnic also hosts a variety of dynamic speakers and professional development activities at our campuses.
Red Deer Polytechnic offers generous vacation entitlement for permanent employees. Red Deer Polytechnic is also closed between Christmas and New Year’s Day, providing time off for employees to recharge and enjoy time with family and friends.
Red Deer Polytechnic also organizes many wellness activities and events to maintain and improve the happiness and quality of life for our employees.
Tuition Waiver Courses for Staff, Faculty and their Families
Eligible employees and members of their family can pursue learning opportunities and not pay tuition for one three-credit Red Deer Polytechnic course per term.

Red Deer Polytechnic values the efforts and contributions of our staff and faculty. To recognize the individual efforts that contribute to the success of Red Deer Polytechnic’s programs and services that support our learners, Red Deer Polytechnic has an Employee Recognition Program which consists of multiple parts: Service Milestone Awards, Awards of Excellence, and Departing Colleague Recognition.
Awards of Excellence
The Awards of Excellence are given once per year as formal recognition for extraordinary contribution to the success of Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) in four categories:

Excellence in Teaching
Excellence in Service
Excellence in Innovation
All Awards of Excellence are in support of extraordinary contributions from Faculty and Staff who exemplify Institutional values, contribute to student success and leave a lasting legacy at Red Deer Polytechnic. Recipient(s) for each of the four categories will be given annually and will receive a cash award of $500.00 (net). All nominee recipients will receive an Award of Excellence Certificate.

Service Milestone Recognition
Red Deer Polytechnic celebrates Service Milestone Awards, where we recognize (in five-year increments) employees who are working at Red Deer Polytechnic. We’re proud to share that we have some faculty and staff who have worked at Red Deer Polytechnic for 45 years or more, vastly contributing to the success of Red Deer Polytechnic and our students.
Create a Ripple
We enjoy recognizing our colleagues and People & Culture has a few easy ways to do this.
First, we have a webform that can be used to tell us about something a colleague did. After the form has been completed, an email is sent to that person, their supervisor and People & Culture. Throughout the year, we have draws for people who are not only being recognized, but also for those doing the recognizing.
Second, People & Culture has recognition cards available that can be used to write your colleague a note. We have standard branded cards and soon we will have unique RDP recognition cards that reflect our values, express gratitude, and include messages of thanks.
Finally, you can choose how to recognize your colleague in various ways. You could use a feature available in Office 365 (praise feature), you could nominate a colleague for an Award of Excellence, or you could recognize them in anyway that you want (in-person, send an email, etc). We want to continue to spread some good gossip!
Successful candidates will be offered appropriate training and onboarding to help ensure their success as an instructor or staff member at Red Deer Polytechnic.
