With its new brand in place, Red Deer Polytechnic is launching a new campaign today that features three alumni and the real impact they are having right here in central Alberta.

“We are so proud of our alumni, and we’re honoured to feature three remarkable individuals in our campaign,” says Jim Brinkhurst, Interim President of Red Deer Polytechnic. “This year, we're on a new path as Red Deer Polytechnic, and it’s a great opportunity to celebrate the stories of the people who provide the fabric and the life of this institution. Our past successes are demonstrated, in part, through the impact our students and alumni make in our communities. Our bright future will continue to be built by our students, alumni and employees who make Red Deer Polytechnic, and our surrounding communities, so special.”

The recruitment campaign highlights the contributions of three alumni who have made positive impacts in a variety of ways.

April Massie charted her path to business expertise by first attaining a Certificate in Management, then a Business Administration Diploma, and finally a Bachelor of Business Administration. As a student, she connected with the services available at RDC, and she learned the importance of receiving help on her learning journey. Now, in her career as an Indigenous Business Strategist with Business Link Alberta, she is passing this on as she assists Indigenous business owners to build and grow their businesses.

Erin Boake, a renowned local artist, developed the foundational knowledge and skills for her practice as a student in the Bachelor of Fine Art University Transfer program. She followed her passion, first establishing a successful personal practice and then opening Artribute Art School for young artists. Through her School, she passes on a passion and instills a deep appreciation and love of art to the next generation of artists.

Taylor McCallum honed his expertise in the Plumber Apprenticeship program, and he took these skills to the most elite level of competition in the world. Starting in 2017, he began competing in Skills Canada Alberta competitions, and he continued to expand his knowledge, skills – and results – at successive competitions at the provincial and national levels. In 2019, he was a member of Team Canada at the WorldSkills Kazan competition in Russia, where he connected and competed with those from around the globe.

Red Deer Polytechnic will release videos highlighting each alum throughout the campaign, inspiring students and potential students to consider what their dreams are and what impacts they can make right here.

“In showcasing their successes, our alumni are powerful inspiration,” says Kylie Thomas, Vice President Academic and Provost. “It is critical for students and prospective students to learn of these success stories. Our alumni feature assists others to visualize their potential and what they will achieve while also connecting them to what success looks and feels like. No matter what program or educational path a person chooses, they have the potential to realize positive change for those around them and their entire communities.”

“Real impact. Right here.” will run from now until May. In addition to the feature stories, students and alum will be encouraged to share their own stories through social media contests throughout the campaign.
