Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Program

Kathy joined RDC as a continuous probationary faculty in August of 2018.

She has been a nurse for the past 25 years and has returned to academia numerous times throughout her career. Starting out as a diploma RPN/RN she worked in Yorkton, Sk for the first 7 years of her career in acute psychiatry and credits this experience as the foundation for developing a love for mental health and a passion for best outcomes.

She completed a BScMH from Brandon University in 2003 while working in both acute psychiatry and the mobile crisis unit in the city of Brandon.

She moved to Alberta after completing her bachelors and began work on a master’s degree in 2009, completing in 2013. She has worked in Assertive Outreach, Acute Psychiatry and Crisis Services in Central Alberta.

In 2016 she took the position as Nurse Manager at Safe Harbour and along with Safe Harbour executive and a local physician, Dr. Mulholland, developed, opened and managed the first Medically Supported Detox in Red Deer.

She left this position in August of 2018 to join RDC. She is working towards a continuous appointment and hoping to pursue a PhD. She continues to pick up an occasional shift with the crisis team in Red Deer.
