COVID-19 Illness Reporting Procedures

Information for Students, Faculty and Staff

If you are ill, stay home. We each have a very important responsibility not to spread COVID-19, and everyone should stay home if they are ill. 

Red Deer Polytechnic students, faculty and staff should complete the COVID-19 Reporting Form if:

• They are exhibiting symptoms that could be associated with COVID-19.
• They were in close contact with someone is positive for COVID-19.
• They have received a positive COVID-19 result.

This applies to those who are on-campus and those who are learning and working remotely.

Before Coming to Red Deer Polytechnic's Campuses 

• If you are ill, stay home. We each have a very important responsibility not to spread COVID-19, and everyone should stay home if they are ill. 
• If you suspect your illness may be related to COVID-19, then visit the Alberta Health Services website to complete the self-assessment or contact Alberta Health Link at 811.

Students On-Campus

When you are not at Red Deer Polytechnic:

• If you become ill when you are not at Red Deer Polytechnic, do not come to campus. 
• Contact your instructor or Athletics coach to let them know you are ill. 
• Complete the COVID-19 Reporting Form.
• If you suspect your illness may be related to COVID-19, then visit the Alberta Health Services website to complete the self-assessment or contact Alberta Health Link at 811. 
• You should discuss any upcoming exams or assignments with your instructor. 

When you are at Red Deer Polytechnic:

• If you become ill when you are at Red Deer Polytechnic, please let your instructor, coach or Library staff know immediately. 
• Complete the COVID-19 Reporting Form.
• If you suspect your illness may be related to COVID-19, then visit the Alberta Health Services website to complete the self-assessment or contact Alberta Health Link at 811. 
• You should discuss any upcoming exams or assignments with your instructor. 

Students Taking Online Classes 

• If you become ill with COVID-19, please let your instructor know. 
• Complete the COVID-19 Reporting Form. 
• You should discuss any upcoming exams or assignments with your instructor. 

Faculty and Staff 

• Details and processes for supervisors, faculty and staff are available under the Human Resources tab on TheLoop. The steps below provide a quick summary for your reference. 
• If you become ill, contact your supervisor to let them know. 
• Complete the COVID-19 Reporting Form.
• If you are not at Red Deer Polytechnic, do not come to campus. 
• If you are at Red Deer Polytechnic, please let your supervisor know immediately.  
• If you work remotely, let your supervisor know you are ill, indicating if you have been on campus within the last two weeks. 
• If you suspect your illness may be related to COVID-19, then visit the Alberta Health Services website to complete the self-assessment or contact Alberta Health Link at 811. 

Procedures if You are Awaiting COVID-19 Test Results

With the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases across Alberta, more people are being tested for the virus, so it is important to clarify Red Deer Polytechnic’s process regarding test results. All faculty, staff, students, contractors and guests who have gone for COVID-19 testing should not come to campus while they are waiting for their results. This includes: 

• People who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms 
• Those who are asymptomatic, including but not limited to: 
  • Those who have been tested due to close contact with a person who has the virus  
  • Those who are linked to a known outbreak 

As there is a risk of transmission from asymptomatic individuals, Red Deer Polytechnic requires anyone who has been tested to wait for their results and adhere to any AHS isolation requirements before returning to campus. 

Please note that if you receive a positive test result, do not return to campus and follow the direction from Alberta Health Services.
