Winter 2022 Term

UPDATE November 25, 2021 – Full vaccination required for Winter 2022 Term

Further to our previous update, Red Deer Polytechnic has determined that all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved Red Deer Polytechnic exemption for Winter 2022 Term (starting January 1). This applies to those who are on campus and to those who are learning and working online.

Why is this requirement for full vaccination being implemented?

At Red Deer Polytechnic, no students or employees learn or work entirely online. Students may come to campus to access the Library, connect with student services or write exams, or they may have practicums or work placements. Employees may be required to come to campus for meetings or other work-related obligations. Because of these factors, we have determined the best way to keep our campus community healthy and safe is to require all students and employees to be fully vaccinated.

Program and Course Delivery

We anticipate the Winter 2022 Timetable will remain as it is currently published online. Students will continue to have the opportunity to choose from courses, labs and seminars offered through a variety of delivery methods, as identified in the Timetable:

  • on-site (in-person on main campus)
  • fully online
  • blended delivery (on-site and online learning within the same course), or
  • HyFlex (with learners choosing whether they wish to attend on-site or online for a particular course)

Apprenticeship students can view program-specific information about upcoming periods, including schedules and delivery methods.

Students may register for courses or change their class schedule until January 12 (last day to add/drop courses for Winter term). Students can discuss their class schedule with an academic advisor, if they wish.

Services

School offices and services will continue to be offered online and in-person during business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm). This helps to ensure that students, employees and visitors continue to be well supported whether they are on our campuses or connecting virtually.

Food services will continue to be provided at the FarSide Bar & Grill, as well as Tim Hortons, Tim Hortons Express and Starbucks on main campus. Any changes to food services will be communicated in advance of, and during, the Winter term.

Health and Safety Protocols

Through everyone’s diligence following a variety of health and safety protocols implemented by Red Deer Polytechnic, we have all helped to create a safe environment on our campuses and learning centres. Thank you.

For the Winter 2022 Term, starting January 1, the following protocols will be in place:

  • Individuals who are ill should remain at home. If you suspect your illness may be related to COVID-19, then visit the Alberta Health Services website for more information or contact Alberta Health link at 811.
  • Complete an Illness Reporting form if you exhibit COVID-19 symptoms, have had a close contact or have received a positive COVID-19 result, as described in Illness Reporting Procedures. This applies to all employees and students, whether you have attended our campuses or learning centres in-person or study/work online.
  • Face coverings will be required at all times in all indoor spaces.
  • Physical distancing of at least two metres between individuals will be required in all common spaces, and within other areas, whenever possible.
  • Wash your hands and/or use hand sanitizer regularly. More than 300 hand sanitizer stations have been installed throughout our campuses.
  • Checking in using the SAFE RDC app:
    • Employees and students will no longer be required to complete the COVID-19 Contact Tracing and Daily Health Checklist on the SAFE RDC app before arriving each time at our campuses or learning centres. This is because each individual’s vaccination status will be confirmed by our institution through the vaccination program
    • Visitors and contractors will be required to complete the Visitor COVID-19 Contract Tracing and Daily Health Checklist before arriving at our campuses or learning centres. This checklist is available on the SAFE RDC app

As we proceed in the Winter term, Red Deer Polytechnic will continue to adhere to Alberta Government public health measures and adapt our COVID-19 protocols as necessary.

Vaccination Program

Updated November 25, 2021

In addition, everyone who comes to Red Deer Polytechnic's campuses or learning centres must adhere to the institution’s COVID-19 vaccination program.

Rapid tests will no longer be accepted, except if individuals have been granted a rapid testing accommodation as part of an approved Red Deer Polytechnic exemption. This is a decision by Red Deer Polytechnic made with the intention to best protect everyone in our campus community from potential COVID-19 transmission.
