Becky Wylie Jardine
Biography
Becky Wylie Jardine began teaching at Red Deer Polytechnic in 2016 as a Sociology Instructor. She started teaching part-time, then went to a full-time sociology position within a relatively short time. She was approached by the Associate Dean to be a subject matter expert in the development of a Justice Studies Program at Red Deer Polytechnic, and the program was launched in September of 2018.
Becky was hired as a full time faculty and Head of the Justice Studies Program and has taught sociology and justice studies at Red Deer Polytechnic. In addition to teaching, she is the faculty mentor for the Justice Studies Student Society and is a volunteer board member of the Alberta Community Crime Prevention Association and the Red Deer/Lacombe Rural Community Crime Watch Association.
She has also been the Head Coach of the Red Deer Polytechnic Rodeo Team for the past 7 years. She works collaboratively with the Board of the Canadian College Rodeo Association (CCRA), attends CCRA rodeos as well as assists with administrative tasks for the team.
Becky attended Mount Royal College where she obtained her Diploma in Police Science. She then attended Simon Fraser University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology. She was hired by the RCMP in August of 1986 and was posted all across Canada. She took an educational leave without pay from the RCMP in 1992 and attended the University of South Florida, Tampa where she obtained her Masters Degree in Criminology. Her M.A. thesis tested Aker’s Social Learning Theory as an explanation for Dating Violence. She returned to Alberta and to her job in the RCMP, and after 22 years of service, she retired from policing.
