Firefighter Applicant Physical Aptitude Test
Red Deer Emergency Services and Red Deer Polytechnic have partnered to provide third-party testing of the Firefighter Applicant Physical Aptitude Test, which is a critical requirement all aspiring firefighters or firemedics must successfully pass before getting hired.
The Firefighter Applicant Physical Aptitude Test includes seven stations that candidates are required to complete, each with specific time constraints. You must wear a 45-pound weighted vest while completing the stations, excluding the cardiovascular test. For safety during the treadmill test, running shoes are substituted for firefighting boots.
The seven stations include:
Cardiovascular fitness test
Equipment carry
Hose drag
Weighted sled pull
Forceable entry
Victim rescue
Ladder climb
While this test is challenging, it is crucial that first responders possess the physical capabilities necessary to safely evaluate victims in any emergency. Maximal effort will be required and individuals participating should be healthy and active. Participants must pass all the tests to successfully complete the overall test. You will be provided with a copy of your personal results when the test is completed. Your results will also be forwarded directly to the relevant fire department as soon as possible after test completion.
This program is available to anyone who is looking for a career in firefighting services.
