What is Dual Credit?

Dual credit is optional career-based high school programming. It can assist students in making meaningful transitions to post-secondary education or the workplace. School authorities have the flexibility to develop and implement dual credit programming that provides students with relevant learning experiences.

With online asynchronous learning you will be able to access course information any time which will ensure that this program will fit into your high school schedule.
How to apply?
To register for this program, you must be a high school student enrolled in one of our partner school divisions. Please speak to your high school guidance counsellor about how to enroll in this program.

Dual Credit Courses

HCA 1001 – Health Care Aide Roles and Responsibility

When:  February 26, 2024 – May 24, 2024  

Why would I want to take this course? 

Are you interested in a career where you are able to make a difference in people's quality of life? Enrolling in Health Care Aide Roles and Responsibilities will introduce you to the Health Care Aide profession. This course can be used towards the completion of a Health Care Aide Certificate with the required minimum grade of 70% in the course. 

Course Description: 

During this course, you will focus on the role and responsibilities of a health care aide working in a variety of employment settings. The focus of this course is to share information that will result in safe, ethical and respectful care based on the needs of the client. Care that meets these standards is known as person-centred care. To meet the goal of person-centred care, the health care aide must be familiar with the provincial legislation that guides safe, ethical and personalized care. 

In addition, knowledge of how to work as part of the health-care team is essential, as is the ability to follow your employer’s policy and procedures and your job description. The Health Care Aide is responsible for identifying, managing and preventing potential environmental hazards in facilities and community-based settings, and focusing on the client’s safety as well as your own safety in different settings.

FINS 1150 – Personal Finance

When:  February 26, 2024 – May 24, 2024  

Why would I want to take this course? 

Do you want to learn more about how you can manage your own finances as you move into the workforce? Are you interested in pursuing a business career? This personal finance course will provide you with an introductory into the realm of business.  

This course can be used towards the completion of a Business Certificate, Diploma or a Bachelor of Business Administration. Please refer to the program of interest to see the minimum grade requirement for this course. 

Course Description:  

Explore personal financial literacy and management of personal finances. Combine theory and business math concepts to learn fundamental principles of short and long-term financial planning, budgeting, taxation, credit, insurance, investing and retirement.

SOCI 260 – Introductory Sociology

When:  February 26, 2024 – May 24, 2024  

Why would I want to take this course? Are you interested in learning about social interaction? This course can be used towards the completion of a University Arts Diploma or a University Transfer: Bachelor of Arts in Sociology degree as well as can be taken as an elective for many other programs. Course Description: Introduce sociological perspectives, methods and concepts used to analyze social behaviour. Examine how culture, socialization, institutions and interactions have an impact on social life.

PSYC 260 – Principles of Psychology I

This course can be used towards the completion of a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Psychology degree program as well as can be taken as an elective for many other programs. Course Description: 

Discover the fundamental terminology, procedures, findings and theories related to basic psychological processes. Explore the history and nature of psychology and research methods in this field.  

Learn about the psychological and biological foundations of behaviour, sensation and perception, consciousness, learning, memory, language and thought.
