Carnelle Raigne Symes

Biography

Carnelle, known as Raigne, has worked as a registered nurse in various areas including medical, surgical, adult intensive care, palliative care, long term care, and school nursing. Raigne has also worked abroad as a nurse and nurse educator in Qatar. Raigne began teaching at Red Deer Polytechnic in January of 2019. In her time at RDP Raigne has taught in all four years of the nursing program, worked as a program chairperson, and been involved in many initiatives both within the nursing program and in the wider RDP community. Raigne is passionate about curriculum development and accreditation and has lead projects in these areas for the BScN program. 

Raigne is a PhD candidate with her research centered on the topic of academic nursing leadership and understanding the nuances of these roles. Raigne has also completed research in the areas of the integration of simulation into the BScN program, math competencies for BScN students, student wellness and success, and the adoption of new technologies for teaching. Raigne is interested in supporting students and faculty to reach their highest potential through her research projects. 

Raigne is an active member of the Alberta Gerontological Nurses Association and sits on the Central chapters board. Raigne has been recognized for her scholarly work by receiving several awards throughout her academic studies as well as the Dr. Marguerite Schumacher Spirit of Nursing award at RDP.
