Heather MacLean
Biography
Heather comes from the east coast of Canada. She started her academic journey in Fredericton, NB, at St. Thomas University, completing an honours psychology degree. After graduation, she volunteered with the Fredericton Sexual Assault Crisis Centre before moving to London, ON, to complete a Master of Education, Counselling Psychology, where her program drew from feminist and trauma-informed practices.
During her internship at King’s University College, she co-facilitated groups on divorce, separation, and domestic violence. After graduation, Heather worked for Violence Against Women Services in Elgin County, working in the shelter and providing individual and group counselling for those who experienced sexual violence. Heather later moved back to the east coast, working in post-secondary as a counsellor, providing groups, workshops, and assessments.
In 2015, Heather came to Red Deer Polytechnic as a Counsellor, providing individual counselling, workshops and training. Heather continues to be passionate about supporting the RDP and Red Deer community with training and education about gender-based and sexual violence.
Heather is a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
