Biography

James Wilson is a passionate educator and filmmaker dedicated to shaping the next generation of Canadian filmmakers. With a wealth of knowledge and experience, James brings a unique blend of theoretical understanding and practical expertise to his role as a film instructor.

Raised with a love for cinema, James discovered his passion for storytelling through film at a young age. He attended various film programs and worked at several television stations while attending Edmonton’s Victoria High School for the Arts. This propelled him to explore Vancouver’s film industry, eventually returning to Alberta to seek formal education, completing a Motion Picture Arts Degree at Red Deer College. Wanting to pursue innovative ways of instructing the craft of cinema, he completed a Master of Education at Athabasca University. His academic journey laid the foundation for a multifaceted career combining academic rigour with hands-on filmmaking. 

As a faculty of the Film Production Degree, James specializes in teaching motion picture production and business. His commitment to nurturing students' creative potential is evident in his engaging teaching style, where he seamlessly integrates theory with practical applications. Under his guidance, students not only grasp the technical aspects of film production but also develop a profound appreciation for the art of storytelling through visual media.

A long-time advocate for the transformative power of film, James continues to inspire and mentor aspiring filmmakers. Through his commitment to education and his contributions to the art of filmmaking, he remains a driving force in shaping the future of Canadian Cinema.
