Biography

Katherine Thompson is in her fourth year at RDP in the Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies. During her time at RDP, she has been involved in creating and running the Indigenous Student Group and currently serves as president. She attended RDC in 2004-2006 and is pleased she was able to return to RDP to complete her education.

Katherine spent the last several years as a stay-at-home mother, raising her four children with her husband, Matthew. She dedicates much of her time to their children as some have special needs. She is familiar with advocacy through her interactions with health care professionals and school staff and faculty while supporting her children.  She enjoys hiking with friends and family, baking, and creating art in several mediums.

Katherine is a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta and was awarded the Belcourt Brosseau Métis Award in 2023 and the Indigenous Careers Award several semesters of her studies. Katheirne enjoys working with Indigenous Student Services on campus and participated in the planning committee for Métis Week events and flag raising in 2024.  She has also recognized on the Dean’s list at RDP multiple times.
