Morgan Walper
Biography
Morgan Walper, the Head Athletic Therapist at RDP Athletics and a Kinesiology instructor, has built a solid career grounded in practical experience and academic achievement. Her educational path began at RDP in 2011, where she not only pursued her Kinesiology and Sports Studies Diploma but also played on the Queens Basketball team, demonstrating her early interest in sports and physical wellness.
After completing her diploma at RDP, Morgan attended the University of Alberta, earning a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. This period laid the foundation for her career in athletic therapy. Between completing her bachelor's degree and embarking on her postgraduate studies, Morgan worked as a Kinesiologist, gaining hands-on experience in the field.
Morgan's pursuit of specialized knowledge in athletic therapy led her to Montana State University Billings, where she obtained her Master of Science in Athletic Therapy in 2017. An integral part of her master's program was a practicum placement at the RDP Athletic Therapy clinic, which not only enriched her educational experience but also smoothly transitioned into a professional opportunity as a Part-time Athletic Therapist at RDP.
Her research, particularly during her thesis with the RDP Kings Hockey team, focused on understanding the relationship between hip adductor strength and linear skating speed in collegiate hockey players. Her findings were significant, contributing valuable insights to the field of athletic therapy.
In her current role as Head Athletic Therapist, Morgan has been instrumental in improving the quality and range of care for RDP student athletes. She has broadened the services available by incorporating the expertise and volunteer services from from chiropractors, physiotherapists, and massage therapists. Additionally, her efforts in establishing connections with Central Alberta Orthopedics and the Brent Sutter Sports Medicine Clinic, has significantly enriched the support available to student athletes.
Beyond her responsibilities at RDP, Morgan continues to enhance her clinical skills through professional development courses. One such course, Anatomy Trains, has significantly influenced her approach to therapy, emphasizing the importance of understanding the body's connective tissues in treatment practices. Additionally, she has completed the comprehensive Complete Concussion Management course, further broadening her expertise in treating patients with concussion.
Morgan Walper's career path reflects a blend of academic pursuit and practical application, showcasing her dedication to the field of athletic therapy and education, as well as her commitment to supporting the health and performance of student athletes.
