Biography

Robert Nellis serves as a continuous faculty member in the Bachelor of Education program, teaching a variety of courses. For Red Deer Polytechnic, he has taught courses in Child Development and Family Studies as well as Media, Culture, and Curriculum, Concepts of Childhood in the History of Education, Introduction to Educational Psychology and many more education-related courses. 

For the University of Alberta, he has taught Consultation and Collaboration in Special Education, Assessment and Instruction of Exceptional Learners, Introduction into Media Education and Individualizing Instruction for Adolescents with Special Needs. He has also taught English for Northwestern Polytechnic in Grande Prairie at Big Stone Cree Nation. 

Robert's thesis received the Canadian Association for Curriculum Studies Dissertation Award. He developed that work into the book Haunting Inquiry: Classic NFB Documentary, Jacques Derrida and the Curricular Otherwise (Sense 2009). Since that time, his scholarship and publications have drawn from memoir, creative nonfiction, arts-based approaches and poetic inquiry.
