
Robin Lambert
Biography
Robin Lambert is a ceramic artist and educator whose theoretical and studio research interests include social practice, art and craft theory, craft culture, and the role of the artist and the art object. After two years at Red Deer College, he earned a BFA with distinction from Alberta College of Art and Design and an MFA from the University of Regina.
Lambert's ceramic art style physically walks the line between not quite sloppy craft and not quite refined, showcasing a unique approach to the creative process. His work often explores themes of loss and hope, creating a nuanced and emotive connection with the audience.
Notable artwork includes the award-winning pieces "The only thing I know for sure is that while I am looking for you, you are looking for me" and "I should like to give you a kiss." These pieces reflect Lambert's exploration of emotions and interpersonal connections.
In the realm of education, Lambert has been sharing his expertise since 2007, teaching ceramics, drawing, and sculpture at AUArts, the University of Regina, and Red Deer Polytechnic. He also contributes to the Summer Series Program, offering instruction in Bronze Casting. His teaching contributions span various aspects of art, contributing to the development of emerging artists.
Currently, Lambert is working on a project titled "I buried my heart in Alberta," inspired by the story of Portuguese Prince Dom Pedro I. This project showcases his ongoing dedication to the creative process and his connection to the local geopolitical identity. The title alludes to Lambert's love/hate relationship with the politics of Alberta, offering a nuanced exploration of his personal engagement with the region's socio-political landscape.
Throughout his career, Lambert has received numerous awards, including a Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada Masters Grant, an Alberta Creative Development Initiative Grant, and the RBC Emerging Artist Award from the Gardiner Museum.
