The Classroom Support Aide micro-credential is a six-month program focused on providing meaningful support for teachers and learners within the classroom. If you're looking to upskill or reskill into education or looking to work towards completing your Educational Assistant program, this is the program for you.
This micro-credential will help you as a Classroom Support Aide to start working in the school sooner. You'll learn to assist teachers with implementing curriculum, addressing learning loss factors and helping with key literacy and numeracy skills with learners.
After completing this program you can ladder directly into Red Deer Polytechnic’s comprehensive Educational Assistant (EA) Certificate Program. Get the education you need while also addressing the emerging expectation that school divisions have for EAs to be credentialed.

Introduction to Educational Assistant
- Introduction to the role of a classroom assistant, including their roles, responsibilities, ethical and professional expectations.
Social and Emotional Development - Part A
- This course is designed to provide educational assistants with a comprehensive understanding of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and its significance in promoting academic achievement and overall well-being. Participants will explore the core components and principles of SEL, gaining insights into its impact on students' personal development and academic success. Through reflective exercises, interactive discussions, and practical applications, participants will acquire essential skills and strategies to support students' social-emotional growth in diverse educational settings.
Social and Emotional Development - Part B
- This course is designed to equip educational assistants with a deeper understanding of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). Participants will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to help students develop responsible decision-making while exploring trauma and its impacts on learning. Throughout this comprehensive course, participants will explore various strategies, resources, and reflective exercises to effectively support student well-being and academic success.
Literacy Intervention
- Effective teaching strategies for literacy. Topics include learning theory; early literacy intervention; comprehension and decoding strategies; the writing process and writing analysis with an emphasis on assisting students in improving their reading and writing skills.
Numeracy Intervention
- Topics include understanding the meaning of numeracy and mathematics, learning theory and its application, effective instructional strategies and how to support diverse groups of learners.
Classroom Support Aide Field Experience
- Working as an educational assistant for 135 hours.
