Michelle Hansen
Biography
Michelle graduated from Norquest College’s Practical Nursing Program in 2002 and has been a proud LPN since then. She has worked in a variety of settings over the past 20+ years beginning in Wetaskiwin and then moving to Red Deer in 2005.
Most of Michelle’s career has been in hemodialysis and community-based services, including supervisory roles in Supportive Living (DSL4) and harm reduction. As a Resident Care Supervisor, she had the opportunity to co-lead Villa Marie’s Butterfly Project in 2016, when they became the third Butterfly Care Home in Alberta. As a Team Lead of the Women’s Program at Turning Point, Michelle worked in many interagency partnerships including Mother’s First, the EMBRACE program with Alberta Health Services and spearheaded a new support group for marginalized people in Red Deer. She strongly believes in providing person-centreed care, no matter the person’s background or living situation.
Since joining Red Deer Polytechnic in 2022, Michelle has found a passion for teaching and believes that she will be able to help more people by educating up and coming LPNs. She finds the learner-centred approach at RDP aligns closely with her values.
Michelle is an advocate for social justice and a proud ally of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.
