Are you new to Red Deer Polytechnic and unsure what to expect as a student? You're not alone. This is a new chapter in your life, and studying at a post-secondary institution can feel overwhelming, especially if you don't know where to start.

If you're new to the Polytechnic and are looking for advice on what to expect, we're here to help. We created New Student Orientation, an event specifically for our first-year students to help you with the ins and outs of everything you need to know, preparing you for the next steps in your student journey.

New Student Orientation will allow you to:

  1. Meet and connect with students. You're not the only one that's going through this new journey. New Student Orientation is an opportunity to meet and connect with other students who are just as excited and nervous as you are.
  2. Introduce you to your program and instructors. Post-secondary education is more than just late nights studying and eating macaroni and cheese. The whole reason for going to school is to explore your educational journey and take a step toward your bright future. Why not meet the instructors that will help you achieve those goals right from the start?
  3. Learn about the services and resources available to you as a student. Did you know you have access to a variety of services? We've got you covered, from Recreation and Sport to Library, Counselling, Student Connect Centre, Academic Support, Career services and more.
  4. Explore the campus. You'll have the chance to discover campus the way you want to through guided tours or exploring on your own. Wander the halls, find your classes, check out the best study spots and places to hang out, and tour the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre. You'll also find out where you can access all available student services.
  5. Enjoy a free lunch. For all students attending Orientation, lunch is on the house, courtesy of the Students' Association of Red Deer Polytechnic. Bon appetite!
  6. Feel great about your newest adventure. We want you to have the best experiences in and outside the classroom, and by attending New Student Orientation, you'll learn how to achieve that. You'll feel even more confident, prepared and excited after attending. We promise.
