Prospective students explore RDP during fall Open House
Program exhibits. Hands-on activities. Campus tours. Prizes. And free food.
Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) was a buzz of activity on Saturday, October 26, as more than 1,500 future students, family members and community members explored main campus during our fall Open House.
Instructors and staff from RDP’s more than 80 industry-relevant programs shared information with future students about the breadth of education, training and applied research opportunities that are part of the unique experiences that they can expect when attending the Polytechnic. Open House guests also enjoyed learning about the Polytechnic through a variety of hands-on demonstrations hosted by our faculty members and staff in classrooms and labs across RDP.
Red Deer Polytechnic staff members helped 323 future students as they applied to attend Red Deer Polytechnic in the Winter 2025 or Fall 2025 Terms. Learn more about how to apply to RDP.
Lots of information was shared with Open House attendees through presentations, including details about scholarships and funding, as well as a special session to help inform parents and guardians about post-secondary education.
Resident assistants and staff provided tours of RDP’s Residence living spaces, while also sharing information about the variety of activities that take place each year where students can connect with one another as they live on campus, just steps from their classes.
Our students are well supported in their educational journey. RDP’s enthusiastic staff who work in student services and campus services connected with prospective students and other attendees to share information about the broad range of supports and services we have available.
Attendees also enjoyed a free lunch courtesy of the Students’ Association that served fresh soup, salad and buns in the FarSide.
A handful of lucky prospective students took home door prizes, including a $500 tuition voucher that can be used to help pay for future courses.
And our Campus Store was open for people to shop for RDP-branded clothing and merchandise, and to explore textbooks and other supplies.
Rufus, our friendly lion mascot who cheers on our Kings & Queens throughout the Athletics season, greeted guests as they explored campus during Open House. And speaking of Athletics, the festivities on main campus continued into Saturday night during our Homecoming celebrations as RDP’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams won on home court in the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre against Ambrose University.
We always enjoy opening our doors and welcoming future students and community members to our campuses. Our faculty and staff are proud to share information about our programs, training, applied research at Open House each fall, as well as to provide opportunities for people to explore our facilities.
Thank you to everyone who attended Red Deer Polytechnic’s fall Open House. We look forward to seeing many of you in the future as students in our halls and classrooms.
