Devyn Shannon

Board of Governors Member

Devyn Shannon is a second-year Bachelor of Arts in Psychology student, joining the Board of Governors as a student member. An active advocate of mental health, he has worked closely with several student groups, sitting as the President of the G.A.M.E. Society for two years and a member of Pride on Campus. A founding member of Entertainment in Academia with Student Societies Conference, he has a passion for integrating fun and play into learning.

Devyn was a member of the Students' Association Council during the 2023-24 year and a member of their Governance Review, Mental Health, and EDII Committees. As a Council member, he participated in the review of the Association's Mission, Vision & Values as well as the creation of new and refinement of their existing policies and bylaws. Devyn has developed a keen interest in student advocacy and the role of good governance in effective leadership; all of which led him to put his name forward during the SA General Election where he was elected as the 2024-25 President of the Students' Association.

Continuing the work of cultivating an inclusive and safe campus for all who work, learn and live at Red Deer Polytechnic, he hopes to work hand in hand with the all of those who call the institution home, and eagerly looks forward to what the new academic year brings.

Currently, he lives in Red Deer with his spouse, Lesley, and their two adorable cats, Olivia and Grayson.
