Dr. Stéphane-D. Perreault

Instructor

Biography

Dr. Perreault is a specialist in Canadian History with a passion for world history and current events. He encourages students to achieve their best by nurturing their curiosity, consolidating and expanding their research and analytical skills. His courses emphasise a critical approach to both primary and secondary sources while encouraging learners to use creativity in sharing the results of their research. He is a strong lecturer, but he also strives to use technology to enhance the classroom experience and engages students in sharing their own learning.

His research focuses on the complex relations in society between dominant and “minority” groups, and how that affects historical dynamics. More recently, he has been developing research projects in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), using similar approaches and how these social dynamics influence the creation of educational programmes and courses and learners’ experiences.

Dr. Perreault’s passion for professional development led him to chair the Faculty Professional Development committee for two and a half years. He currently serves as one of the two Faculty Professional Development Consultants, assisting colleagues with their professional development needs. He is also a founding member of the Polytechnic’s Reconcili-action Working Group. In the past, he has been active in the committee organising the Agora student conference as well as serving as faculty liaison for Pride on Campus and for the Indigenous Student Circle.

Outside of RDP, he is active in Alberta’s Francophone community. He has been a member of the Red Deer and of the provincial boards of the Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta and of the Société historique francophone de l’Alberta. He chaired the Réseau santé albertain for two years. His passion for social justice has also led him to be part of the EDI task force of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE). He also is Francophone vice-chair of SoTL Canada, a constituent group of STLHE.
