Biography

Richard Longtin is the Associate Vice President, External Relations, at Red Deer Polytechnic. Richard oversees the areas of alumni relations, development and government relations.

Prior to this role, Richard was the Director of Government Relations at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. There, he led units at Lakehead University including Alumni Relations and the Student Union.

Richard has worked for elected officials on Parliament Hill and Queen’s Park, such as cabinet ministers and members of the official opposition. He has also managed successful campaigns in both federal and provincial elections by leading the strategy and operations of the campaign, along with managing hundreds of volunteers. 

During his career, Richard has raised more than $60M for multiple causes in K-12 education, post-secondary education and health care. Being passionate about giving back to the communities where he lives, he has served as a board member with multiple organizations including the Royal Ontario Museum, the Thunder Bay Museum, the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital and Rotary Red Deer. 

Richard is originally from Dunnville, Ontario and frequently visits the area to see friends and family.
