Biography

Jo-Anne is an alumna of Red Deer Polytechnic where she graduated with the Practical Nurse Diploma in 2003. Upon completion of her program, she began her career at Red Deer Regional Hospital working in Medical Surgical Unit 23 and the Emergency Department. 

She transitioned to nursing education with RDP in 2014 and found her passion. Jo-Anne has been an instructor in the Practical Nurse program since this time. 

Jo-Anne completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences from Thompson Rivers University in June 2022 and is actively involved in courses from The Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing to enhance her professional development as a nursing educator. As an instructor, Jo-Anne approaches her teaching to the student's needs, focusing on creating a supportive, safe, unique and evidence-based learning environment. 

In April 2023, Jo-Anne participated in INPN 3000, which was a Cross-Cultural Practicum for the Practical Nurse Diploma. This course was supported by a grant received from Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), where she and eight practical nursing students went to Saint Lucia. Jo-Anne and the eight students participated for two weeks in community-based health promotion and teaching related to key health issues specific to Saint Lucia.
